What leaves your computer, and what we keep.
The app runs on your computer and your collection stays there. This page says exactly what leaves it, and what we keep.
What the app sends
- Lookups. To match a file, the app sends the key it read from the name, a code or a title, to the catalogue: ours for the adult collections, TMDB or Open Library with your own key for the others. Never the file, its path, or anything else about your disk.
- Your account. Signing in sends your email once to get a code, and the code to mint a device key named after your computer. Every later call is signed with that key.
- The free tier. For each collection we keep the keys the account has matched so far, to count them against the free titles. They are codes and ids, not file names, and they are never shown to anyone, including us, beyond the count.
- Crash reports, only if you switch them on: the app and version, the error, and the last few lines of the app’s own activity log. No account, no library contents.
- Downloads and the extension fetch the addresses you give them, with the cookies the page used, from the sites you chose. Nothing about those downloads is reported to us.
What this site sends
Nothing, unless you fill in a form. Asking for a licence sends your email, the plan, and the note you wrote to our API, and we keep them to answer you and to grant the licence. Joining the waitlist sends your email and which of our sites you were on, and we keep them to write to you once, when the download is out. No analytics, no cookies, no trackers; the age gate on the adult site remembers your answer in your own browser only. The pages load nothing from anyone else's servers: the fonts, images and scripts come with the site.
What we keep
- Your email, when you signed up and in, the devices you signed in from, which collections you have bought, with the purchase records a payment processor sends us, and any licence request or waitlist sign-up you made.
- Counts: how many lookups a day, how many titles per collection, when the free tier filled up. Counts, not titles.
- Nothing else. No analytics scripts in the app, no tracking on these sites, no advertising.
Who sees it
Us, to run the service and help you when you write. The payment processor you choose at checkout sees what a payment needs. Catalogues you use with your own key, TMDB and Open Library, see the lookups you make and are governed by their own terms.
Your rights
Write to hello@popmedia.app to see what we hold on your account, correct it, or delete the account and everything with it, licence requests and waitlist sign-ups included. Signing out a device revokes its key at once; you can do that from the app.
